How early can a kitten be vaccinated?

We recommend kittens receive their first vaccinations at around 6 to 8-weeks-old. Earlier than that, and the antibodies they receive in their mother’s milk may interfere with the efficacy of the vaccines. After their first set of vaccines, kittens typically receive further vaccinations every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 4-months-old.

What vaccines do kittens need?

Vaccines are divided into two groups: core and non-core. We consider core vaccines as mandatory, while non-core vaccines are recommended by your veterinarian based on you and your pet’s lifestyle needs. Kittens usually get their core vaccines which protect them against rabies, calicivirus, panleukopenia, and feline herpes.

Do adult cats still need vaccines?

Certainly. Even if your cat lives 100% indoors, it is strongly recommended they are vaccinated once every 1 to 3 years, depending on the specific vaccines. Your fully grown cat will need to keep receiving their core vaccines. Their non-core vaccine schedule can be modified all throughout their life as your lifestyle changes.
