Evaluation and management of skin diseases that can cause discomfort and pain.
For most dogs, cats and other pets, their skin is the largest organ in their body. It plays important roles such as regulating their temperature, protecting them from irritants/the elements, helps them touch/interact with the world and other animals, and so much more. Your pet’s skin goes through a lot each day, and it’s no wonder dermatological issues are some of the most common reasons why pet parents like you come to hospital teams like ours. From simple rashes to complex conditions, we are here to keep your pet’s skin as healthy as possible. Give us a call at 647-350-6666 to find out more about our dermatology services for pets.
Unless otherwise instructed by your vet, dogs should be bathed about once every 1 to 2 months. Although cats are amazing at cleaning themselves up, they should be bathed by you or their groomer about once every 4 to 6 weeks.
Try not to bathe them too much and avoid using too many grooming products that can irritate their skin. Using a humidifier may also help prevent rashes in your pet, especially during the wintertime or if you live in a particularly dry area. Diet is also important. Foods rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids will also help keep your pet’s skin and coat smooth and shiny. Salmon, tuna and other seafood are great options. Finally, always keep an open dialogue with your vet and the rest of us here at Upper Bathurst. If you see anything on your pet’s hair, skin or nails that is out of the ordinary, please notify us right away so we can lessen the effects of any potential problems.
