Did you know dental disease is one of the most common illnesses to affect pets? By the age of three, a surprising majority of dogs, cats and other pets have some degree of dental disease. Dental problems can cause significant pain, mood/behaviour changes and can trigger other health problems in your pet. Fortunately, our team is here to help. Call us at 647.350.6666. for more information on how we can keep your pet’s teeth bright and healthy.

How can I stop my pet from getting cavities and other dental problems?

Consistency is key. Regular dental exams and professional cleanings by the vet (at least once per year) are important. This will allow us to detect any problems early on and make recommendations on treatment options and lifestyle tweaks. At home, your pet’s teeth should be brushed daily. We will teach you proper techniques and recommend products that will make the process super easy. Then, it is also a good idea to avoid certain objects or activities that can damage your pet’s teeth. Tennis balls, bones, branches and certain toys can actually fracture your pet’s teeth.

Is it normal for pets to have bad breath?

No. This is usually a sign of plaque and tartar buildup. It is also one of the earliest symptoms of dental disease. It’s a good idea to let your vet know about your pet’s bad breath, so further analysis can be conducted.
