Weight Management Services for Pets

When it comes to our pets’ weight, more is not always merrier and less is not always more. Different species, breeds and ages of pets will have different ranges of what is considered “healthy weight.” To know for sure if your pet is overweight or underweight, it is best to seek the advice of our team. For example, certain pets are naturally thin while others are naturally heavier. During a one-on-one consultation, we can create a weight loss or weight gain plan tailored for your pet’s specific needs. This way, you can be sure they will embark on their journey in a safe way, backed by a team of experts.

Is it ok to feed my pet human food?

Yes, but you have to be well-informed and always ask us if you are unsure about anything. There are foods that are 100% safe for dogs like cooked chicken, fish, peanut butter and carrots. For cats, rice, bananas, fish and meat are also generally safe options. But, there are also foods toxic for pets such as chocolate, coffee, certain fruits like avocado, onions, garlic and so much more. These are often mixed in with human dishes, so it’s always best to proceed with caution when giving your pet “people” food.

What is the best way to help my pet lose weight?

There really is no cookie-cutter approach when it comes to weight loss (or weight gain). Generally speaking, helping your dog exercise more, not using food as a reward and having scheduled meals with set portion sizes are a good start. But, weight is not usually as simple as that. For example, your pet’s weight gain may be due to an undiagnosed medical condition. This is why we always advise pet parents to speak with their vet before starting any sort of diet or lifestyle change, or if they notice anything unusual with their pet’s health.
